I love participating in the
Virtual Paintout each month. For January 2015, the location was Philadelphia, PA, chosen by Bill Guffey, creator and leader of the Virtual Paintout. It seems there is never enough time to virtually look around the chosen city or country. The Philadelphia area had many cites and different types of scenery. Lots of good subjects. I found an industrial location with tanks and stacks that I like to paint but I kept looking for something more descriptive of the city. I happened upon Philadelphia's Chinatown which had a beautiful, ornate gateway. It reminded me of the one I painted for the Virtual Paintout in
Washington D.C. of the Chinatown gateway there. I like to try two pieces, one watercolor and one gouache. Looking forward to next month as always.

I love how to beautify sometimes very ordinary colour lacking scenes Sherry and make them better than real life
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorraine! What a nice comment~
DeleteYou do a great job of bringing life to these images.
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara!
DeleteI thought I remembered a Chinese gate in Philadelphia but didn't find it. Great colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine, I was happy to find the gate.
DeleteThought I recognized that Chinese arch! Well done, Sherry. You really captured the colors and energy of Chinatown (also in the DC one, too). Wish you could come to these parts to paint - I'd love to see your interpretation.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to remember the park with the duck girl fountain you painted. No street view though. I would love to see the city!
