It's Burke Heritage Park in Alhambra, next to the Alhambra Historical Society. I've driven by it many times. But what always caught my eye was the block of "picturesque" tanks next door. Maybe water tanks. Usually some kind of construction seemed to be going on there. Since I really enjoy industrial subjects like utility poles and storage tanks, I had wondered about painting there sometime, but considering that it's fenced I didn't think it would happen. But our wonderful paint-out organizer scheduled the park next to the tanks. It's a mostly green grass park with a small garden, and tanks across the street. But from where I was I didn't see a good view of the tanks to paint. Maybe next time. I did like the view to the east which had some palms and utility poles.</p><p><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh4O4HuAVrRoHsTmmnzo4LNR_OvDiXj6tZVlr0yLiz-vW3eDo31HpSaUrqK8ZS2_DANYDMwGEp10m0hdFzBhDdJMg7bhuVcGIlkBWDvBvo2CNAr8HTs6iP96tJ7cGnh37xkfVq98-Qikl8Ufqc3lCJZnl4TD84cw2AcmA7Y2omklIpfB0W-Sx9DhU5U0g=s900" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="649" data-original-width="900" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh4O4HuAVrRoHsTmmnzo4LNR_OvDiXj6tZVlr0yLiz-vW3eDo31HpSaUrqK8ZS2_DANYDMwGEp10m0hdFzBhDdJMg7bhuVcGIlkBWDvBvo2CNAr8HTs6iP96tJ7cGnh37xkfVq98-Qikl8Ufqc3lCJZnl4TD84cw2AcmA7Y2omklIpfB0W-Sx9DhU5U0g=w400-h289" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Watercolor 5" x 7"</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiO9ppL5Na3YV88aT7vkDBzpR9w1erHBgHKbmkzo0qTLRfsh2T66NywF1JtmP5E5qHjqDTlcR8Zw-Nn4hiIemrdvuZJiLdRIMK-nUO3wTpgBEJ2BeZeOBL68kwnhamZ1Qtzx-SIWdGlAxTnHXFLrp_nB5tDkT42jequfT03Y-Y0ARWjt78XhpJkSNDCgw=s3648" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiO9ppL5Na3YV88aT7vkDBzpR9w1erHBgHKbmkzo0qTLRfsh2T66NywF1JtmP5E5qHjqDTlcR8Zw-Nn4hiIemrdvuZJiLdRIMK-nUO3wTpgBEJ2BeZeOBL68kwnhamZ1Qtzx-SIWdGlAxTnHXFLrp_nB5tDkT42jequfT03Y-Y0ARWjt78XhpJkSNDCgw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg1KO3nHKWNW2uW7gDqJy7of7vl5qp1Cw_pp0MjJNyK2f8b4fupRzl-83JOunqayzqrTBU6zdRTOd3CYAXYykJNZ0JV6B_PGvtdYM_T6aP85MFGpEFy3B1yPoSmN8YqGBYeUADab_mLUny33J3uNW2eBjMkJcoKQC8tyioaq2TqIqzKEUkL-6EkLOoy5A=s3648" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg1KO3nHKWNW2uW7gDqJy7of7vl5qp1Cw_pp0MjJNyK2f8b4fupRzl-83JOunqayzqrTBU6zdRTOd3CYAXYykJNZ0JV6B_PGvtdYM_T6aP85MFGpEFy3B1yPoSmN8YqGBYeUADab_mLUny33J3uNW2eBjMkJcoKQC8tyioaq2TqIqzKEUkL-6EkLOoy5A=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgREM9_P5_l5FGa4azAsG0rpmbZZYfF6gJBgnCikqFlL4QsfgZL9s14xqa_4ETRSvn5psyhc4nsT64POJDo6jcAbpgrRUa7PkWlCyyGcc1RAUXtdUJyzvDieeaa-U_TxChlEQJv-oxPoFbbIJ5KD3MVP-GXIXkMAQgemveNbc8wEploTtN4c_-oVTzdeA=s1034" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="839" data-original-width="1034" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgREM9_P5_l5FGa4azAsG0rpmbZZYfF6gJBgnCikqFlL4QsfgZL9s14xqa_4ETRSvn5psyhc4nsT64POJDo6jcAbpgrRUa7PkWlCyyGcc1RAUXtdUJyzvDieeaa-U_TxChlEQJv-oxPoFbbIJ5KD3MVP-GXIXkMAQgemveNbc8wEploTtN4c_-oVTzdeA=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p> </p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-10729311470095102432022-01-14T18:34:00.000-08:002022-01-14T18:34:22.992-08:00Caltech Gate<p> This is my first plein air painting for 2022! It was a bright, sunny day for our paint-out at Caltech. Caltech is always a favorite place to paint. The campus is beautiful and it's close-by. Choosing what to paint usually requires walking around a little to see what view might make a fun and interesting painting. On one side of Dabney Hall is a walled garden that looked appealing in the dappled light from the olive trees. The gate on the east side of the garden caught my eye for my watercolor. Just what I was looking for.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhLecadxsCTSCXwYUd0wzhwi_6PQnqQkzTyufi3XnbyA_08V5XrFdkipqe6o2rwAr5lxV3sf4qE3OqJNq0UqbeLfdgcrjqjKIJh0V2y3KkOymDXVYEOZs4e44giGwV996YghP5usALUJMLDQUWL-TwZEJ4SLkx6IFIWdtPVsXuldjJrJwXLHTbKanae5g=s800" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="570" data-original-width="800" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhLecadxsCTSCXwYUd0wzhwi_6PQnqQkzTyufi3XnbyA_08V5XrFdkipqe6o2rwAr5lxV3sf4qE3OqJNq0UqbeLfdgcrjqjKIJh0V2y3KkOymDXVYEOZs4e44giGwV996YghP5usALUJMLDQUWL-TwZEJ4SLkx6IFIWdtPVsXuldjJrJwXLHTbKanae5g=w400-h285" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjroe-fvIXtNwXWSasD5ZLnFJKKBA0j6wyldkPFyaCEV81e3qxQC5sTwiMzRmApaTBwlaEZ9fNt12EGmR2mCKIVwZMt3u9bSx6KR5RHQd4LZT_iNo8FfYp5qyBIx2lVZ7SbRitvXVKanF_sMPH5PohMhAlc4gPPBSFMxywcpiJQuHVZpJ4-Zx1Gk50GXA=s3648" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjroe-fvIXtNwXWSasD5ZLnFJKKBA0j6wyldkPFyaCEV81e3qxQC5sTwiMzRmApaTBwlaEZ9fNt12EGmR2mCKIVwZMt3u9bSx6KR5RHQd4LZT_iNo8FfYp5qyBIx2lVZ7SbRitvXVKanF_sMPH5PohMhAlc4gPPBSFMxywcpiJQuHVZpJ4-Zx1Gk50GXA=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiLLWQ-YniUPMhSZesSQw0vrIktp2Y1gJSt1SgJa4kqjAqxXVl8GuE15azDzn6cHDMCfWHpIlfxJ1qG2qYbD8kGyR09kYQkaSkGUtSH6uSvO5pCm2QbV1pKczRtpIe8jqfazZH_KUuvyddMJy8ICYOA9RkGOIE0HYPDNCrWF7uuUt4MuvOjLvSEFITGzw=s3648" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiLLWQ-YniUPMhSZesSQw0vrIktp2Y1gJSt1SgJa4kqjAqxXVl8GuE15azDzn6cHDMCfWHpIlfxJ1qG2qYbD8kGyR09kYQkaSkGUtSH6uSvO5pCm2QbV1pKczRtpIe8jqfazZH_KUuvyddMJy8ICYOA9RkGOIE0HYPDNCrWF7uuUt4MuvOjLvSEFITGzw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgS1iwT1goN2NiCCf_r1_fmImUlPAtqDe09PYBhZgDxjosDfUK7JR19IWeGPwgyxFYi3q6YtIBM2yKvWjBQllF38P-uc_IuIzsrPVOK-TvLwX1f73Ks1-IMS_jOycrcUYJTYEkK2rDt4jf3mRs0sUwa7ykhkReodIe_tKqxNNkG8uZ-4QJCJ6Gz8n-xMw=s3648" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2736" data-original-width="3648" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgS1iwT1goN2NiCCf_r1_fmImUlPAtqDe09PYBhZgDxjosDfUK7JR19IWeGPwgyxFYi3q6YtIBM2yKvWjBQllF38P-uc_IuIzsrPVOK-TvLwX1f73Ks1-IMS_jOycrcUYJTYEkK2rDt4jf3mRs0sUwa7ykhkReodIe_tKqxNNkG8uZ-4QJCJ6Gz8n-xMw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-57128146074805360362021-12-31T18:34:00.000-08:002021-12-31T18:34:01.259-08:00Last Paintout in 2021<p> Our final paintout in December 2021 was at Arlington Garden. It's always one of my favorite places to visit and to paint. There are always wonderful views new to me to paint even though I've been there many times. On this visit we were excited to see some beautiful fall colors. And there is always something about the winter light through the trees that I really enjoy seeing and painting. </p><p>Wishing you a very happy 2022!</p><p><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; I always look forward to it. It's also a card exchange for anyone wanting to participate. This year I had fun making my card of greenery and berries using colored pencils and watercolor. I also added some glitter/glue dots on the berries which really made it sparkle. </p><p>Last fall when we were not meeting together to paint, I painted some red Nandina berries in watercolor. Nandina is also known as Heavenly Bamboo. There is a tall plant next to our driveway that gets beautiful red berries in the fall. I usually can't resist painting or drawing them. Next to the green, background, bamboo leaves the red berries really stand out.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiiQH20b8vkHH8-Z7ki5gH-HW3yFAUGaaN4ih_DVvGmOigoh1D0NiAXvcCAWYM-a5-fCC3KWUSuJhvtsqsE3pHoKkmcVcmIINVy6_QmARwO-S5DiXQdde2Rb48wnWdcegsWVLPvKKrDi9fBlULl-HELieCraiW2GYH2I6HUwwh5nQEY2ru3gvvpIbqEAA=s835" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="835" data-original-width="594" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiiQH20b8vkHH8-Z7ki5gH-HW3yFAUGaaN4ih_DVvGmOigoh1D0NiAXvcCAWYM-a5-fCC3KWUSuJhvtsqsE3pHoKkmcVcmIINVy6_QmARwO-S5DiXQdde2Rb48wnWdcegsWVLPvKKrDi9fBlULl-HELieCraiW2GYH2I6HUwwh5nQEY2ru3gvvpIbqEAA=w285-h400" width="285" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Approx. 5" x 7" Pencils and Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjyKBKv_kJFd_L3yFP2iyArx9nrZChTX4FPSr4OnImV4qJXR7CtF41WBeh2fWK9xmybuRLSQm-XboHbxBdI7dqcx9hBgsOTgN8pFmcYA6LXsBEWJ2w0y7-VGS1qTGE9sA4FCfq0WcFLEyz5uabogEbqBvIBdyheUM9PSP3lIe4W4SnT_xoYfWikwyCNDw=s668" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="668" data-original-width="481" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjyKBKv_kJFd_L3yFP2iyArx9nrZChTX4FPSr4OnImV4qJXR7CtF41WBeh2fWK9xmybuRLSQm-XboHbxBdI7dqcx9hBgsOTgN8pFmcYA6LXsBEWJ2w0y7-VGS1qTGE9sA4FCfq0WcFLEyz5uabogEbqBvIBdyheUM9PSP3lIe4W4SnT_xoYfWikwyCNDw=w288-h400" width="288" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">7" x 5" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgQGtPzJR33ET49E2BAgIpsinRhPo0OTcXKxAKvooe9aCv8M4NywC0Lwte7m4P_gfyRbVF_xsFraWRgVaAp8czyzAp8izAsg1v1fB9uN-bdmjJ3HU1pOuVoBx60tYSuS3er_JNQZbycA15osP39zmtkhbv6SqXlT8KJ2uBrKGijy_5ZccmIxiCNqFwPGA=s3648" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3648" data-original-width="2736" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgQGtPzJR33ET49E2BAgIpsinRhPo0OTcXKxAKvooe9aCv8M4NywC0Lwte7m4P_gfyRbVF_xsFraWRgVaAp8czyzAp8izAsg1v1fB9uN-bdmjJ3HU1pOuVoBx60tYSuS3er_JNQZbycA15osP39zmtkhbv6SqXlT8KJ2uBrKGijy_5ZccmIxiCNqFwPGA=s320" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-63087574241941366622021-11-28T18:14:00.002-08:002021-11-28T18:14:27.859-08:00Beckman Auditorium<p> I was recently contacted by an administrator at Caltech about my watercolor paintings. Of course I was thrilled and excited. They needed a watercolor of Beckman Auditorium. It would be for a celebration of life occasion for the former general manager of event productions at Beckman Auditorium. They would be giving the painting to his family. What an honor to have one of my paintings considered for this event. </p><p>I hadn't tried painting Beckman Auditorium on any of our many paint-outs at Caltech. It's a very unique and difficult building by architect Edward Durell Stone (1964). The two people I dealt with furnished some photos to use for my painting which they needed very quickly. I chose to combine two photos, including some Jacaranda blossoms in the main photo I used. It was enjoyable to finally try painting this special building for their special occasion. </p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjCfLP_E4eT5znEzoDl8U6aFrBCjgqQUkELS2OScxaQbiPQYuQCGdClp_i4pZJNEp4KQcQ-tnpmhKW2pBcgjwzdDp2fofEfKjvrM6ifLQP_0F9ekbdHzWQcocy-wcsAlRpIMAENsNop2GrwdZYGANFmXAv1-DI6IH_A7ckeVim4UtKWr4lq80S0E9Q6Rg=s956" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="762" data-original-width="956" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjCfLP_E4eT5znEzoDl8U6aFrBCjgqQUkELS2OScxaQbiPQYuQCGdClp_i4pZJNEp4KQcQ-tnpmhKW2pBcgjwzdDp2fofEfKjvrM6ifLQP_0F9ekbdHzWQcocy-wcsAlRpIMAENsNop2GrwdZYGANFmXAv1-DI6IH_A7ckeVim4UtKWr4lq80S0E9Q6Rg=w400-h319" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">8" x 10" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj0ZXm2UAr95IvYgKEbw_8VgNPA8BY3ljfd4jpsvWjZhCCZa7Vk33Tmlx_pJ2-g8hULRAhcxvQGxN_AKz1sKnK_JpLZZ_-71QckRYIkC3Wa9IA14GcfPyisyDlYpk9QCE2ercKZhMjj8VZtwZhwTauNNGl0sQMilyo1wD8SJpVchp414G83nu61yHChCA=s1059" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="718" data-original-width="1059" height="217" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj0ZXm2UAr95IvYgKEbw_8VgNPA8BY3ljfd4jpsvWjZhCCZa7Vk33Tmlx_pJ2-g8hULRAhcxvQGxN_AKz1sKnK_JpLZZ_-71QckRYIkC3Wa9IA14GcfPyisyDlYpk9QCE2ercKZhMjj8VZtwZhwTauNNGl0sQMilyo1wD8SJpVchp414G83nu61yHChCA=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEitaWM53yIDbdAoMiKlyNu869eR5lC9j2h4f9wFqbnT7hmjQ2qRMzVFWmXRQqY_MwvgGbrY7HCBnAWR4eS85F-p7GfooktFfneA0tYKMzp-_X8oiY-pfUx8HB3YjIvZBDvJXyvrt7OAGU-qfE2t4u4B7JngcblAew7H_3jCsB9LPSFigCdckH_mDVOUMA=s1510" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1510" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEitaWM53yIDbdAoMiKlyNu869eR5lC9j2h4f9wFqbnT7hmjQ2qRMzVFWmXRQqY_MwvgGbrY7HCBnAWR4eS85F-p7GfooktFfneA0tYKMzp-_X8oiY-pfUx8HB3YjIvZBDvJXyvrt7OAGU-qfE2t4u4B7JngcblAew7H_3jCsB9LPSFigCdckH_mDVOUMA=s320" width="212" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-49735026148917821372021-11-12T19:34:00.000-08:002021-11-12T19:34:37.304-08:00The Watering Trough<p> Our South Pasadena watering trough is officially Cultural Heritage Monument No. 7. Designed by Norman Marsh, and presented to the city in 1907, it's titled "The Watering Trough and Wayside Station". It was a rest stop for people and horses as they traveled between Los Angeles and Pasadena. </p><p>I've painted many times in this location, once the center of South Pasadena, but I hadn't painted the horse trough before. Two paint-out friends were painting in this area so it was time to try it. It was nice day and the lighting on the stones caught my eye.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjK8GhXbmWYOLGjcld9duqqXMAd7BZh_ERhN7Awk7thsxKA0dSTOtWzf6YKN4cTxh_zT9kT0QZInG9FBOa3aUg1iHU9TUfdQR6PBKjYovKcwd4ihcMFYwKrUvFXktYTc5sFihk649HrSwL0VdmFXDToroi0xM_le_-HZuw0BBBuFylfTn3ZrvLvq2gsZw=s672" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="483" data-original-width="672" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjK8GhXbmWYOLGjcld9duqqXMAd7BZh_ERhN7Awk7thsxKA0dSTOtWzf6YKN4cTxh_zT9kT0QZInG9FBOa3aUg1iHU9TUfdQR6PBKjYovKcwd4ihcMFYwKrUvFXktYTc5sFihk649HrSwL0VdmFXDToroi0xM_le_-HZuw0BBBuFylfTn3ZrvLvq2gsZw=w400-h288" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Gouache</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgKvJFs_m_8xRqPzzm2IPWjJ9lMeIDKw58VQwpW-Mv7Fd2VDgtCdIzTSldZPUh57FaubKN-wKrSm0Q4LLStvD_QsZGrOKpmS_iSHOHhLFhQ1ZXGDcTyw9O70Yroi6pdl1oWlqFG7z-Xu1LsZhbGrVVrqKh8zkQCX30RVxPY9VDWILqZ5WifWUMm-9EEmw=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgKvJFs_m_8xRqPzzm2IPWjJ9lMeIDKw58VQwpW-Mv7Fd2VDgtCdIzTSldZPUh57FaubKN-wKrSm0Q4LLStvD_QsZGrOKpmS_iSHOHhLFhQ1ZXGDcTyw9O70Yroi6pdl1oWlqFG7z-Xu1LsZhbGrVVrqKh8zkQCX30RVxPY9VDWILqZ5WifWUMm-9EEmw=s320" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhP7AywUUDnOPvZsApb4VBT-RMAXMcb_IvrETDTvUZODk2PgcoaQARPcVmK3aGQtGr2NS3YJVbqj7982r4tsebk4LGBXzWuqdewrX8Sn3XxcIqwVuIFNvwdmI3ByMCIYqm8MN93vZ7lFl_cKfPGKgSteHSOf6rkRZ2KDQJURqONwB4P_1Q07gBFQiDD9Q=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhP7AywUUDnOPvZsApb4VBT-RMAXMcb_IvrETDTvUZODk2PgcoaQARPcVmK3aGQtGr2NS3YJVbqj7982r4tsebk4LGBXzWuqdewrX8Sn3XxcIqwVuIFNvwdmI3ByMCIYqm8MN93vZ7lFl_cKfPGKgSteHSOf6rkRZ2KDQJURqONwB4P_1Q07gBFQiDD9Q=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhijOJkKHFlKbBxX4tOU7egfhELULkbRzw7j7lMiAfDI5ytQtebCNvmOJb6stBbx_Qa02QTM9bwMAqdWtRvDqWKKoYb0S_Wcfd9t4UjJeEj3Zib6k6EqaU_QJJnrQANctE5HJ3uqCYmfsJ0rb6yV0EBVj-qmpPDRVq971gX6KkBSZKQqMkAj6VmGufukw=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhijOJkKHFlKbBxX4tOU7egfhELULkbRzw7j7lMiAfDI5ytQtebCNvmOJb6stBbx_Qa02QTM9bwMAqdWtRvDqWKKoYb0S_Wcfd9t4UjJeEj3Zib6k6EqaU_QJJnrQANctE5HJ3uqCYmfsJ0rb6yV0EBVj-qmpPDRVq971gX6KkBSZKQqMkAj6VmGufukw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p> </p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-81391716626031258722021-10-29T19:58:00.003-07:002021-11-12T18:24:01.817-08:00Halloween House<p>I've painted at this South Pasadena intersection many times in my years of plein air paint-outs. This building, The Century House (1888), is also known as Halloween House. Two of the "Halloween" horror movies were shot there. Appropriate for this Halloween weekend. In 2012 I posted my first plein air watercolor of the local landmark, <a href="https://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2012/10/century-house.html">Century House</a>.</p><p><br /></p><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhOn6xcgWT_m5cJtsSeR2X7PkFnseLAefd0Y9_T23nt9efjnfsf-yeEnx5zhuZdMNUmJvgJavHa6M2kUcVp0jdGCi0N-XhEMqyQjTaR2y7q6eyM7GX3wU2zFxYJENmaUkcfkheOS1usz9YmN4O9Zdx-LTyNPBiYZqOgnr5mO0uChkVS7BaEQjUs0xOf3A=s672" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="481" data-original-width="672" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhOn6xcgWT_m5cJtsSeR2X7PkFnseLAefd0Y9_T23nt9efjnfsf-yeEnx5zhuZdMNUmJvgJavHa6M2kUcVp0jdGCi0N-XhEMqyQjTaR2y7q6eyM7GX3wU2zFxYJENmaUkcfkheOS1usz9YmN4O9Zdx-LTyNPBiYZqOgnr5mO0uChkVS7BaEQjUs0xOf3A=w400-h286" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></div> <div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiLh1wdOyRuGyESQRKajDs9PAa-X-uCAbEECOKQaCP2QxNbm1A9R_l9EqaPBPJTtbQ64hHS4Drny1oBL8wGmLasqvZAfsxYQ2HuUSRUtcdh8pIHCvfQppVn0hpZZtnFHvvABd7yvddrWF0w1YTKLm0ppgQclej0-9RTJ9TXRwiy3gfpSd-PE0dL_94kiw=s2048" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiLh1wdOyRuGyESQRKajDs9PAa-X-uCAbEECOKQaCP2QxNbm1A9R_l9EqaPBPJTtbQ64hHS4Drny1oBL8wGmLasqvZAfsxYQ2HuUSRUtcdh8pIHCvfQppVn0hpZZtnFHvvABd7yvddrWF0w1YTKLm0ppgQclej0-9RTJ9TXRwiy3gfpSd-PE0dL_94kiw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgJfnQUd9rynefnOenuVcDWhFZh6-Pw5xCG4SNAln3XB5oggUFE3IsgVg9uxdvaxdsfMdqGr0S1jVCHzt6aL-jIsJEMgmXwfR9kXPxSLgDp76fBGntNQXrP1Ag8b--alqrmGka7WKrompW737VkZk0yN78AUCQYkpYa85Ue4iG5KbRCukWxfRkzOKXk-g=s2048" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgJfnQUd9rynefnOenuVcDWhFZh6-Pw5xCG4SNAln3XB5oggUFE3IsgVg9uxdvaxdsfMdqGr0S1jVCHzt6aL-jIsJEMgmXwfR9kXPxSLgDp76fBGntNQXrP1Ag8b--alqrmGka7WKrompW737VkZk0yN78AUCQYkpYa85Ue4iG5KbRCukWxfRkzOKXk-g=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjkDNasl708ivBAO9w3FkSXBmYDsXf-EeFjxrjVvWDPR6BsjKONspMukXIYI5ExCzm9uJbGV7EANO5dgM3rpgzoPZmq5YUHqQ7Mon9TBrN9mP7ZC8qtq4yPjvkS48NIZkkqFsbHI8hbcO1DvoTGuGg2epf9NLLrGTgrP8Wta7appIEXfoe_H-0K6CtVNQ=s2048" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjkDNasl708ivBAO9w3FkSXBmYDsXf-EeFjxrjVvWDPR6BsjKONspMukXIYI5ExCzm9uJbGV7EANO5dgM3rpgzoPZmq5YUHqQ7Mon9TBrN9mP7ZC8qtq4yPjvkS48NIZkkqFsbHI8hbcO1DvoTGuGg2epf9NLLrGTgrP8Wta7appIEXfoe_H-0K6CtVNQ=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-86192269198747708552021-10-11T19:00:00.002-07:002021-10-11T19:01:19.887-07:00More Architecture<p>A recent Saturday paint-out was at Pasadena's new Desiderio Park. Not only is there a spectacular view of the 1912 Colorado Street Bridge but there's a nice view of the 1920 Vista Del Arroyo Hotel. It's extensive and has many windows. Lots of editing required to do a quick sketch. I tried sketching with the pens I'm enjoying using. I also added some watercolor. I've tried a few previous paintings at the Pasadena City Hall but never the Baroque style fountain in the beautiful courtyard. It's over 22 feet tall with a 25 foot diameter basin. I had to paint fast since my parking meter was running. I would like to try it again sometime. </p><p>Just last week we painted at the Oaklawn bridge in South Pasadena. One of my previous watercolor pieces painted there, <a href="https://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2016/08/greene-brothers-only-bridge.html">Greene Brothers' Only Bridge</a>. There was a lot of activity while we painted since it's time to get started on the South Pasadena float for the Rose Parade on New Year's Day. It's fun to watch the Gold Line trains passing under the bridge as we paint.</p><p> </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiNFdplhT9aRmLUyaLzSCCM4LlqFz2r-ulQN1hyUUSbMMDnYSnd0Rjo5if58JnBK8vb5VwenK-bYw7RNTdA903GT5-rMIN7fSOYji38cpgi9tuxn158ihYkUWYjX3PHamAme9Ml2s4a6hQuvKDYZJ_U38xWB1qQ6qCII26A4f9qCZ_MwbMVtJjQfJsWSg=s676" style="margin-left: auto; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Bailey and Hermon are two of our local parks. I've painted at both parks quite a few times with the local paint-out groups. Hermon was on the schedule for possible Jacaranda trees in bloom. They were there at the south end of the long park. Unfortunately I drove by that area, paying more attention to the busy Saturday park traffic, and missing the lavender flowers. Instead I painted an interesting hillside at the north end of the park. Now I know where the Jacarandas are!<p></p><p>We usually go to Bailey Canyon Park to paint the Matilija poppies. It turned out not to be a good year for the poppies. Maybe not enough rain last winter. So I painted another hillside with some friends to chat with. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNAeN1PAtUFMlZokivY6gywVCYWA_S5Ubni85Tf1lcGLve8neIAirB7oEOlSI7c3Jk4EuriztF2tGEf2tI9UYkjtC44rDFhzL_7j4OhFr4DyDIt6vndtH86sTWzwBcbX6ffkAptSzNoS2n/s674/Hermon2.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; It seems that they are more popular than ever now because of their relatively easy care and drought tolerance. Of course they are also beautiful and have an amazing variety of shapes. </p><p>I have two gouache pieces to post. When we started painting together again I tried the wonderful fountain of succulents at Arlington Garden. During our painting at home time I did a gouache piece of one of my aloe plants. The challenge was a "close-up". The aloes display some wonderful shapes and shadows for that theme.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOr1Hxt9-lc4AUKov4LDXu4wZLdOkjgos1OGYmiZQUctykGLfkkf3D4rwM2PW6RN4nn2cL05Wt0VhwKOZ-Z5SrqBKVV0_nwm8kRnyyyKdbEvRFuIU3t_OfuoLenaZ-5gaZR0lZyw82X03k/s668/ArlingtonSucculents.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; The Saturday group has painted there many times. I was happy to be back there a few weeks ago. The flowers were blooming, and people were there walking their dogs, some people cycling through the campus.<div><br /></div><div>Dabney Hall (1929) always catches my eye. It's sort of pink, just beautiful with its plantings of agapanthus surrounding the jacaranda trees. My first gouache piece there was painted in 2013. I painted another gouache of the building since two painting friends also decided to paint the view. It's always fun to chat while painting!</div><div><br /></div><div>News update - I'm trying to get a new email subscription service for this blog. In June we met at the Wrigley Mansion Rose Garden hoping to paint some roses of course. The roses were beautiful as always. It was almost exactly five years ago for one paint-out there, <a href="https://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2016/07/wrigley-roses.html">Wrigley Roses</a>, when I painted a watercolor. I tried a version in gouache this time. </p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLF6sZDMyaerXKTunc2Ou09k6ExJ75S-JZdwz1wjP34FEE1yk0SLxehp-RD1pLXpzKAqzoqgCSPG_-mSJvNswUDv6ip9-Rzz4DGe5pA0YcrbPZp7i-JAx_NjAaOWTEAdb2pUHtSZoQFAQQ/s767/WrigleyGouache.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="568" data-original-width="767" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLF6sZDMyaerXKTunc2Ou09k6ExJ75S-JZdwz1wjP34FEE1yk0SLxehp-RD1pLXpzKAqzoqgCSPG_-mSJvNswUDv6ip9-Rzz4DGe5pA0YcrbPZp7i-JAx_NjAaOWTEAdb2pUHtSZoQFAQQ/w400-h296/WrigleyGouache.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">6" x 8" Gouache</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo4yL269i9kWCnU00GiIAyv5H-EfrS7ALrEuFxZPxpHfEZN4QgPEm7TraP9DmKqe5KKXh52bAQcCo7TJvMuTXUr4zIBIVrVIA2ZwfBAMjFQxcKX0FrMhvTJxHW3mULDk_3xuSIVf6ogLcP/s2048/IMG_0992.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo4yL269i9kWCnU00GiIAyv5H-EfrS7ALrEuFxZPxpHfEZN4QgPEm7TraP9DmKqe5KKXh52bAQcCo7TJvMuTXUr4zIBIVrVIA2ZwfBAMjFQxcKX0FrMhvTJxHW3mULDk_3xuSIVf6ogLcP/s320/IMG_0992.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtUWPIT4WG1VEfTTeJ8ZLM0nIhJJD4UCBcXxxYNE-aGa_sk3WWr8aQiCiLfqS_s1CT-MKU6EhZZ4q5FQXUsSFxMCp9-YMcmL3r9mCc-HiO8Mb_XwTHADjES-oQ4o9SGdDZxXLtDUQTlceo/s2048/IMG_0989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtUWPIT4WG1VEfTTeJ8ZLM0nIhJJD4UCBcXxxYNE-aGa_sk3WWr8aQiCiLfqS_s1CT-MKU6EhZZ4q5FQXUsSFxMCp9-YMcmL3r9mCc-HiO8Mb_XwTHADjES-oQ4o9SGdDZxXLtDUQTlceo/s320/IMG_0989.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnjyEVbcnOALpSNrVdiQAeVXWA_VEigZiRP6y9lg-puIyOwxHGYCdajmfXcOcQBwyc7sJPR04p9KN6agmXmDd5Tun3baoA4QHCkvaIxNRvBbbY2No5SPllzUWfNH2jl65R7ZPz4aGRCaqJ/s2048/IMG_0994.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnjyEVbcnOALpSNrVdiQAeVXWA_VEigZiRP6y9lg-puIyOwxHGYCdajmfXcOcQBwyc7sJPR04p9KN6agmXmDd5Tun3baoA4QHCkvaIxNRvBbbY2No5SPllzUWfNH2jl65R7ZPz4aGRCaqJ/s320/IMG_0994.JPG" /></a></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ5e2hFqycFwUTkab1rRwGmUGZP3-UxoTviybr_yD9LH8_rfPQBnJ81rMjD9YKRimUcomw_yQ3H8LmogN8TPq9PcU8cZ5VjnC_bBhTQGyXiARztwjooeTmIKXuLg8sJJZEb2wbXcj3Vm0c/s2048/IMG_0993.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ5e2hFqycFwUTkab1rRwGmUGZP3-UxoTviybr_yD9LH8_rfPQBnJ81rMjD9YKRimUcomw_yQ3H8LmogN8TPq9PcU8cZ5VjnC_bBhTQGyXiARztwjooeTmIKXuLg8sJJZEb2wbXcj3Vm0c/s320/IMG_0993.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wrigley Mansion, north side</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-54534571762755585902021-07-05T20:26:00.006-07:002021-07-06T00:41:25.013-07:00Sketch at the Library<p> Our South Pasadena Public Library held a fun event recently. On Saturday South Pasadena Beautiful held a Plant Swap there which was wonderful since we've missed garden tours for two years. In conjunction, there was a Toy Swap and a Dollar Book Sale hosted by Friends of the Library. There was a lot of activity! I took some photos first to see what I might like to paint. I noticed that the never-ending line of people waiting to enter the Book Sale made nice silhouettes. I didn't take my paints that day so I did a sketch with pens I remembered to bring. Beyond the line of people I could see the coffee house across the street. I painted that view in <a href="https://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2017/10/corner-coffee.html">Corner Coffee</a> in 2017. Great to be out with people again.</p><p>News ~ Google's email subscription service for blogs like mine will be ending. It's small and located right under the spectacular and famous Colorado Street Bridge (1912). I've painted there twice before <a href="https://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2019/10/a-new-park.html">A New Park</a> and <a href="https://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2019/09/some-architecture.html">Some Architecture</a>. There is also another bridge that's very close to the Colorado Street Bridge, the Ventura Freeway Bridge (1971). It isn't as spectacular but that's okay and I had a good view to try a painting. I wanted to use gouache since it's a little more forgiving than watercolor. </p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSbJUvCOgB2Tye7ybZ3SNxBzleijw4ECgvyibGV7OaLkrM4ct_Q-Pk6exNos0QyfWz2AMneSSni3fud7he9qJpCjBPBHig4YE1ar3NRM444SZnFTxglb0VlzKKEijECv8K6Uy8V4bYcBOO/s674/134Bridge.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="674" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSbJUvCOgB2Tye7ybZ3SNxBzleijw4ECgvyibGV7OaLkrM4ct_Q-Pk6exNos0QyfWz2AMneSSni3fud7he9qJpCjBPBHig4YE1ar3NRM444SZnFTxglb0VlzKKEijECv8K6Uy8V4bYcBOO/w400-h285/134Bridge.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Gouache</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBzJ4f-GPk_cmGNCrSgKoKk66H6BkNHQ9B5Mo7viicTAnW3SjyKID_XZXdDO0pObGW5SYvOH2zz_cT19HlaYazInQJ7I-eF_khKFHRVc4uWkq6GSeaklBlU0w0dMTjspof49QnJz2jWB_A/s2048/IMG_0975.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBzJ4f-GPk_cmGNCrSgKoKk66H6BkNHQ9B5Mo7viicTAnW3SjyKID_XZXdDO0pObGW5SYvOH2zz_cT19HlaYazInQJ7I-eF_khKFHRVc4uWkq6GSeaklBlU0w0dMTjspof49QnJz2jWB_A/s320/IMG_0975.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2uuu4bN-2FnfzcBGxfp0lPojbQisPsFDj3yTeers01a2TnzsQzNWpDDsPoFOkgauzkf4UG9tUWr6NfcDnt9xD4baidi_LPoNVmsdlQUirM2SdAekD8xOH8Awtl-PzC8mb27WkpMIvFWTr/s2048/IMG_0971.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2uuu4bN-2FnfzcBGxfp0lPojbQisPsFDj3yTeers01a2TnzsQzNWpDDsPoFOkgauzkf4UG9tUWr6NfcDnt9xD4baidi_LPoNVmsdlQUirM2SdAekD8xOH8Awtl-PzC8mb27WkpMIvFWTr/s320/IMG_0971.JPG" /></a></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcgecFzsFJZlVmq6F9rh_96cGotja8HvEz1f59WDAih1GjWjcrGJGXTbgc3oBF7K2uUgnrCJ09bC4np-O6_TvFM1gvWmGtc4iR9f9Qjn_45LEjS2aeHLcT_xcYLt_D68tSaObGTrX_sIxM/s2048/IMG_0973.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcgecFzsFJZlVmq6F9rh_96cGotja8HvEz1f59WDAih1GjWjcrGJGXTbgc3oBF7K2uUgnrCJ09bC4np-O6_TvFM1gvWmGtc4iR9f9Qjn_45LEjS2aeHLcT_xcYLt_D68tSaObGTrX_sIxM/s320/IMG_0973.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Colorado Street Bridge</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-87146694830917464362021-06-11T19:13:00.002-07:002021-06-18T17:42:05.914-07:00The Fruit Cart<p> This is one of my favorite watercolors from the many months of painting at home. During those months the plein air painting groups didn't schedule any paint-outs. We painted near home or from photos. </p><p>Over these past months we had some "porch visits" from our daughter. She's become an avid cyclist and shared some photos on one visit. The photos were from a weekend cycling trip to the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, north of Santa Barbara. Cycling near Solvang she said she really needed some nourishment, some refreshment. She was thrilled to see this fruit cart sort of in the middle of nowhere. I was thrilled to see such a great photo which inspired a watercolor.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3MjleDhlhFHA-nT7nqGV8L-lzFmoLZ5jeDy_2mIHNA5Elg85dgla42fNoHa0VCiz4zMxxfvf1NV9amU4i292qotYBwZ9BJ84P-QZlgsO3_8WefYsXDN52XWEqe-CL1SoLS32L4o4zr-qa/s768/FruitStand.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="580" data-original-width="768" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3MjleDhlhFHA-nT7nqGV8L-lzFmoLZ5jeDy_2mIHNA5Elg85dgla42fNoHa0VCiz4zMxxfvf1NV9amU4i292qotYBwZ9BJ84P-QZlgsO3_8WefYsXDN52XWEqe-CL1SoLS32L4o4zr-qa/w400-h303/FruitStand.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">6" x 8" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Lrx39wE2eMZAmmW2Y8P5BQCi-YQImHB5v_vupbW4nnzScKuG5wZIZ1_CSTSZcNeNM0BS9aW7Vcy-LFoHar506s3sp8lki6mnHz0QGW_w9PpXQfmTShAMMyvVK6cxtrf15xHCafpHQ46S/s958/Screen+Shot+2021-06-11+at+6.58.47+PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="958" data-original-width="719" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Lrx39wE2eMZAmmW2Y8P5BQCi-YQImHB5v_vupbW4nnzScKuG5wZIZ1_CSTSZcNeNM0BS9aW7Vcy-LFoHar506s3sp8lki6mnHz0QGW_w9PpXQfmTShAMMyvVK6cxtrf15xHCafpHQ46S/s320/Screen+Shot+2021-06-11+at+6.58.47+PM.png" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p> </p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-27044667901499883132021-05-31T19:37:00.000-07:002021-05-31T19:37:16.572-07:00The First and The Last<p> It's been over a year of no plein air paint-outs for me. A few friends have gone out but my two favorite groups had not planned any group paint-outs. Now since we are vaccinated and looking forward to paint-outs, some are being planned again. I've been anxious to see some spring scenery. So this month I joined a group at Pasadena's Lower Arroyo Park area for my first paint-out in over a year. It also happened to be the same location as my last plein air paint-out with the group in January 2020. It was great to see friends again. Getting used to plein air painting again might take some practice. </p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt_PNsNGDBBqnEJNAMRdzJR1l21zI-R_et7tFZtikaRelE4NUM427Aj21IvrPfKBIRXXpYXHpREltACPPVFhrFQbT8FjFY-SJqIr-vRvcHCX5WkeVX_GvOlEIMGdxZSggckPBeIHh4N05a/s959/LowerArroyo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; Too many changes for all of us in the past year plus. I need to get back to my happy watercolors! Yellow is an energetic, warm color and is supposed to help people feel more optimistic and cheerful. I did a previous post about yellow, <a href="http://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2020/12/yellow.html" target="_blank">Yellow!</a> This more recent watercolor landscape was painted for our Saturday group. In December 2019 I noticed the several ginkgo trees along Huntington Drive had startling bright yellow leaves. Perfect for a watercolor.</p><p><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI6sokIukxGAw3gBlSZMhyphenhyphenUSxnHCsnqnR2lOPaohLhzq3goz34jPmEQTnNbr6Xu98aawwvN-IOjpH8l5nlH0uw0cyZoNEtUj14HES6MgLoqrH1-S4BWvmEutxu4_zD3pcdRXVm5UJo03xB/s671/Ginkgo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="477" data-original-width="671" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI6sokIukxGAw3gBlSZMhyphenhyphenUSxnHCsnqnR2lOPaohLhzq3goz34jPmEQTnNbr6Xu98aawwvN-IOjpH8l5nlH0uw0cyZoNEtUj14HES6MgLoqrH1-S4BWvmEutxu4_zD3pcdRXVm5UJo03xB/w400-h285/Ginkgo.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkWmUQd_JzfdfRBb-66EJF0n-s2vIEncXhIhDOOzyk_ml3MHQ8IbE7id9yOKpIUXrHVI0IAF5VfBPhqNyp0tT8q2d8GFx4WNeai8coyPn1npK58jo2ZlXTfji1V63tH6CFstw11_u6DFiQ/s2048/GinkgoTrees.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkWmUQd_JzfdfRBb-66EJF0n-s2vIEncXhIhDOOzyk_ml3MHQ8IbE7id9yOKpIUXrHVI0IAF5VfBPhqNyp0tT8q2d8GFx4WNeai8coyPn1npK58jo2ZlXTfji1V63tH6CFstw11_u6DFiQ/s320/GinkgoTrees.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /> <p></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-53889376833748824122021-04-12T17:35:00.002-07:002021-04-12T17:35:55.022-07:00Front Yard Fountain<p> This watercolor was my version of our Saturday group leader's prompt to paint "motion". I had cars in mind for my painting. So I drove to a nearby freeway overpass to get a nice photo of moving cars. But I was surprised to see this great bubbling fountain in a front yard where I parked. My thought for "motion" changed from the "macro" cars to the "micro" water in the fountain. I also got some landscaping ideas looking at this front yard.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXIkBULjrtZXN6D-1lOniSrlFRoskgybDK6Bz3LoSnXRxm7_M0QpXZSN7aj3huwMDrFXkCRwu0iU_PJlen-aRR5QFj3O73xJr6_-vuw_A-AXpshwvryKgGY3oobIbrlSMLA3JFjeSgcoXf/s1000/Fountain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="713" data-original-width="1000" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXIkBULjrtZXN6D-1lOniSrlFRoskgybDK6Bz3LoSnXRxm7_M0QpXZSN7aj3huwMDrFXkCRwu0iU_PJlen-aRR5QFj3O73xJr6_-vuw_A-AXpshwvryKgGY3oobIbrlSMLA3JFjeSgcoXf/w400-h285/Fountain.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWV8kapF3tBeR2u1FTSw1XXGr5tR50nlSJ-ggTm2jIZE3MWhBVpx7Z9BbDsu3TyhytehYA2ML-DcCbJ6hrjDMT__QnJbk0-SVCzy6A82orIpn9_cTgRgOqd7_UsE9alRwLX3WhU88SQh6g/s2048/IMG_1115.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWV8kapF3tBeR2u1FTSw1XXGr5tR50nlSJ-ggTm2jIZE3MWhBVpx7Z9BbDsu3TyhytehYA2ML-DcCbJ6hrjDMT__QnJbk0-SVCzy6A82orIpn9_cTgRgOqd7_UsE9alRwLX3WhU88SQh6g/s320/IMG_1115.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-60870946667846004552021-04-07T18:35:00.000-07:002021-04-07T18:35:15.452-07:00Altadena Pen Sketch<p> I realized I didn't post this pen sketch from quite awhile back. It was one of our last paint-outs before having to stay at home. We met in Altadena to paint at a stable we've enjoyed on several previous visits. In 2015 we met at the stable for the first time, <a href="http://sherryschmidt.blogspot.com/2015/05/altadena-ranch.html">Altadena Ranch</a>. It was always a relaxing paint-out day. But on this Saturday, they had something planned so we weren't allowed to paint there. No problem. The properties around the stable have a lot of possible views to try. I walked around a bit to see some of the horses visible from the main road. I settled on trying another colorful pen sketch where I had a bit of shade to sit in. It's been fun trying dry media like pens for a change.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo89qgeXq0QpmDkC7f3lvfv-X4Q8LbEgdJbUG_GmUJFgYIeNBLqz4PFTfINMWQHFJ_5a0RbEtKq6iLmRakLLmK5Nsa2qaLnOHW33kJLo3x4LQkF3ATyqgq0KTvyJLGbXP69dJ_c3wqSa6M/s665/AltadenaPen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="665" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo89qgeXq0QpmDkC7f3lvfv-X4Q8LbEgdJbUG_GmUJFgYIeNBLqz4PFTfINMWQHFJ_5a0RbEtKq6iLmRakLLmK5Nsa2qaLnOHW33kJLo3x4LQkF3ATyqgq0KTvyJLGbXP69dJ_c3wqSa6M/w400-h289/AltadenaPen.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5' x 7" Pens</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiYSU9-f6YUAIAuQ4eVxpcRR1ughIRgYL__HNE-gXFwUz6MF9iMCBoP9EYcTpgNF0BOYLwB3_jyTgyZla9_7f9YTuRbVAKEiYtAOJ6PYYBQ3LWQJjnpxwBRfw5jJTVt652TtWafrCTscXd/s2048/IMG_0821.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiYSU9-f6YUAIAuQ4eVxpcRR1ughIRgYL__HNE-gXFwUz6MF9iMCBoP9EYcTpgNF0BOYLwB3_jyTgyZla9_7f9YTuRbVAKEiYtAOJ6PYYBQ3LWQJjnpxwBRfw5jJTVt652TtWafrCTscXd/s320/IMG_0821.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsrw12gMnLWfRPSYNDSRZ5M8hdIiEIFKI4RJMgD9em2l52G2uLqwM75T0GK09TSBR8oonEimm-I59BEYEYvxaq33Gv65cKOWDYTm1Ki2MakybpD0-oKIueMS4d58TMkQqlXQV8_WWQ1sZN/s2048/IMG_0819.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsrw12gMnLWfRPSYNDSRZ5M8hdIiEIFKI4RJMgD9em2l52G2uLqwM75T0GK09TSBR8oonEimm-I59BEYEYvxaq33Gv65cKOWDYTm1Ki2MakybpD0-oKIueMS4d58TMkQqlXQV8_WWQ1sZN/s320/IMG_0819.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioVwIbF1meVt19HaOAc6znm-xEEStdwRucvCVdnUMSc495wL9Jqe1x6Tr-Zvvi0BK_5UOCi9NMyjygbQE4pYf9_shu9BQXH-IvCU6ViDTpJN89ZSg6FPm4B_fOPtYIcoBaSXpPMsIvcMbb/s2048/IMG_0816.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioVwIbF1meVt19HaOAc6znm-xEEStdwRucvCVdnUMSc495wL9Jqe1x6Tr-Zvvi0BK_5UOCi9NMyjygbQE4pYf9_shu9BQXH-IvCU6ViDTpJN89ZSg6FPm4B_fOPtYIcoBaSXpPMsIvcMbb/w320-h240/IMG_0816.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div><br /></div>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-24035330089153073582021-03-31T19:29:00.000-07:002021-03-31T19:29:14.924-07:00FROGS!<p> Another one of our painting at home projects was about collections. It seems like so many people collect one thing or another. Artist friends always seem to have their collections. It was kind of a hard decision of which collection to choose. I decided on a still life of some picturesque frogs from my bunch of flower frogs. They were fun to try with pens and watercolor.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRT9YPIvR0Ye7zRhkcJTgZ4La__9c8uhUVuBFA3voW9PKCgcvQMbMRhbZjlCygvIeCUaD04vOnXPMXKWQHYkQ1bX4szA1OoE8LJFqLJfFQQ7e6QJ_ymaV9C6S2AL2E0915rf2q8IzKty2F/s670/FlowerFrogs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="477" data-original-width="670" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRT9YPIvR0Ye7zRhkcJTgZ4La__9c8uhUVuBFA3voW9PKCgcvQMbMRhbZjlCygvIeCUaD04vOnXPMXKWQHYkQ1bX4szA1OoE8LJFqLJfFQQ7e6QJ_ymaV9C6S2AL2E0915rf2q8IzKty2F/w400-h285/FlowerFrogs.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Pen and Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0b0VRj6mFbcaRZw4_c5ujWUxGxntZdk39oZOyzrO0BrIk-c3248cH9f3QDFtIc_h0FDdiSNA7GGDRiPyOmQLuuFSVDa93Au446xnoH1lZdgo_ySHSeikZss8Wm5VGLuODh3Jfj3zJq6qe/s1000/flowerfrogs2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0b0VRj6mFbcaRZw4_c5ujWUxGxntZdk39oZOyzrO0BrIk-c3248cH9f3QDFtIc_h0FDdiSNA7GGDRiPyOmQLuuFSVDa93Au446xnoH1lZdgo_ySHSeikZss8Wm5VGLuODh3Jfj3zJq6qe/s320/flowerfrogs2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-82149611737296114542021-03-28T19:22:00.002-07:002021-03-31T19:41:42.253-07:00BAMBOO<p> With our Stay-at-Home projects, I've been able to work in a couple watercolors featuring bamboo. It's so picturesque and there is some lining our driveway so it's handy for me to paint. Since it's close to Easter, a recent prompt was to try a message or image "hidden" as an Easter egg would be. Of course over the years there have been many hidden "Ester eggs" in artwork and movies. My origami crane isn't too hidden in the bamboo but it was fun to try. "Orizuru" is the Japanese word for a crane made by origami.</p><p>Several months ago our challenge was to try the concept of pattern. I look at the pattern of the bamboo leaves and stalks every day so it was a natural choice for a watercolor. It's such a busy scene and a pattern as well.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgizijb560Zqx4F8F9RVLkfCHMIXN_Vlqe74GC7edz4bIpvr45Lmx87T1WpQMY-pJ774LAOQO3sYefPyaxUGVufjGtpZ9aLWTZ-UoNuBUq6GsCOJXVMZWoTInlVemWSM-beRRG2f6207l5s/s681/Origami.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="482" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgizijb560Zqx4F8F9RVLkfCHMIXN_Vlqe74GC7edz4bIpvr45Lmx87T1WpQMY-pJ774LAOQO3sYefPyaxUGVufjGtpZ9aLWTZ-UoNuBUq6GsCOJXVMZWoTInlVemWSM-beRRG2f6207l5s/w283-h400/Origami.jpg" width="283" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">7" x 5" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiccRhXzJQJdymVUlpXdY1Dvb0fRXXZf5bhb-LMzkfXzImOfh6SiI0oif3oeebXziqA4qocc9fP2AwTfBcnB3FXbf3KBYqQ-FHOG6IMww0W1GRLZe3bMx212E3o5HO7OjLNF3kytWZPeYkI/s2048/bamboo+sprigs.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiccRhXzJQJdymVUlpXdY1Dvb0fRXXZf5bhb-LMzkfXzImOfh6SiI0oif3oeebXziqA4qocc9fP2AwTfBcnB3FXbf3KBYqQ-FHOG6IMww0W1GRLZe3bMx212E3o5HO7OjLNF3kytWZPeYkI/s320/bamboo+sprigs.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqX9-JxwUkRttfn3Hcewk8YDeA0UD5RUyPeshdTwxbp9y4-tuSTHtHwV_hacpiWk4bfE7dzeDKPQzFToWXY4n9tafay3x5ViC01_ZWrPJop0vvSd4Qv_RosgDm5WYcqAGkaO0qMvM4cMiG/s672/BambooPattern.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="672" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqX9-JxwUkRttfn3Hcewk8YDeA0UD5RUyPeshdTwxbp9y4-tuSTHtHwV_hacpiWk4bfE7dzeDKPQzFToWXY4n9tafay3x5ViC01_ZWrPJop0vvSd4Qv_RosgDm5WYcqAGkaO0qMvM4cMiG/w400-h286/BambooPattern.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZI0Jj_80Wp-uJAFZKzK8MC4ieTU3JqyEnPdgEV7D1LaGfnk5zvgtTurUx2-_1xpBNm1z1KQGwpJlD2QGRtKXRcan5_l2yEIguUh44q_VHnUHuLPXSqUM4bcOt76Uc_Kowpo6o63KqW6MX/s2048/bamboo2.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZI0Jj_80Wp-uJAFZKzK8MC4ieTU3JqyEnPdgEV7D1LaGfnk5zvgtTurUx2-_1xpBNm1z1KQGwpJlD2QGRtKXRcan5_l2yEIguUh44q_VHnUHuLPXSqUM4bcOt76Uc_Kowpo6o63KqW6MX/s320/bamboo2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt5qAsAQ9JoiW4KB_l43CQTCnYRht58k53GGBZ3asuyNEyvRsc7lMlYNyuWLM-0UQ4ONxWRDEmu3H_WoE_H3EBCpS6GoI4JjbQjqzhkGKCarqZI2jFyp_mjpqqa4ShkeEN25tNIzmV9TsX/s2048/bamboophoto.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt5qAsAQ9JoiW4KB_l43CQTCnYRht58k53GGBZ3asuyNEyvRsc7lMlYNyuWLM-0UQ4ONxWRDEmu3H_WoE_H3EBCpS6GoI4JjbQjqzhkGKCarqZI2jFyp_mjpqqa4ShkeEN25tNIzmV9TsX/s320/bamboophoto.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-74125947885351080742021-03-05T19:43:00.001-08:002021-03-05T19:43:15.784-08:00A Bird's Eye View<p> I tried this piece in gouache for one of our Saturday group prompts to paint from a "bird's eye view". A fun concept to try. Driving over the Verdugo Wash in Glendale was about as high as I could get for my view. My "bird" seems more like she's sitting on the bridge railing looking for a distant view to paint. Of course I could have just looked down at something on the ground but this was a nice challenge with many options. </p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCRGeLMPyqTF6SyTMTX2iiCjyHECRQUuQav3cXANZLHLMvwXpWkZ9X35OP56ZypYEEyUt8WTcIP4n_6Xq4lVrmg57CgKi_YERmNNOerOnkQeYbV1Otbws6rht-HWbRiWYkzxBNgx1PfC_s/s670/VerdugoWash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="670" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCRGeLMPyqTF6SyTMTX2iiCjyHECRQUuQav3cXANZLHLMvwXpWkZ9X35OP56ZypYEEyUt8WTcIP4n_6Xq4lVrmg57CgKi_YERmNNOerOnkQeYbV1Otbws6rht-HWbRiWYkzxBNgx1PfC_s/w286-h400/VerdugoWash.jpg" width="286" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">7" x 5" Gouache</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwCELz3lOr31hI2iAQDXwl0DrNiSZbhS1yNRq19xD0EnVT2ZhTQukNWB7yXFFF8L2IBv9jV1wBvDNZxp5Ltwte76rtumh48d3Th8maB5rPAbv2qw1Lpo1KvAHPnvRiWfcWAH1sTuWLX_gs/s2048/IMG_1110.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwCELz3lOr31hI2iAQDXwl0DrNiSZbhS1yNRq19xD0EnVT2ZhTQukNWB7yXFFF8L2IBv9jV1wBvDNZxp5Ltwte76rtumh48d3Th8maB5rPAbv2qw1Lpo1KvAHPnvRiWfcWAH1sTuWLX_gs/s320/IMG_1110.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-69666883883588877662021-02-20T18:51:00.002-08:002021-02-20T18:53:45.629-08:00A Sunset!<p> In November 2020 we had some beautiful and unusual sunset views from South Pasadena. Prompted by the sunsets, our Saturday Painting group leader suggested painting skies and/or clouds. Fortunately, I had a couple sunset photos taken from our front yard. Of course the sunset was in the west but the colors reflected on the clouds in the sky to the east. The sunset colors seemed to be everywhere. The tall palm trees lining our street made for an interesting view to paint, looking east. I'm not a fan of painting sunsets but this one was really fun.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWS3ANppibdGKDVc5Cw1jQ1TEvtagncKGusa_nT7bCXjBpmr0AO2nXd-ISWb5oARiCBUWoqytECoMUS4lHgjsgGhtYASkSOifSOFXGiWCxmImEtV5hvMZTD41QV2ua-VSN1mjf-goyZs2M/s668/Sunset.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="478" data-original-width="668" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWS3ANppibdGKDVc5Cw1jQ1TEvtagncKGusa_nT7bCXjBpmr0AO2nXd-ISWb5oARiCBUWoqytECoMUS4lHgjsgGhtYASkSOifSOFXGiWCxmImEtV5hvMZTD41QV2ua-VSN1mjf-goyZs2M/w400-h286/Sunset.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqmFZGwedPA1xPIzR7uN3q9jWZWfx_-29pxemoKM-nhhCZfXS8GaChicyNvXl2w0VvRnzm-Ct9JCoGwU8VIJVuAryvCWNrT2jNE61A4Vuh5hO1Y6mGuZQoQm14eD11Ka28gtzgAYt8pUZn/s2048/sunset.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqmFZGwedPA1xPIzR7uN3q9jWZWfx_-29pxemoKM-nhhCZfXS8GaChicyNvXl2w0VvRnzm-Ct9JCoGwU8VIJVuAryvCWNrT2jNE61A4Vuh5hO1Y6mGuZQoQm14eD11Ka28gtzgAYt8pUZn/s320/sunset.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEjqAnNQB9jlYt7mIqovyaHmzRUR6d1G0Co0_CIx49Cp0u73_zUgH-3Kb1_1JOT_vOdAFLD3lxWH9CDakftToej_Z_k2oyFhHV8esu31ZN3TuRgJDWbkqL3Dfn97p9bhRSl6u9zCQSS1ZH/s2048/Sunset-2.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEjqAnNQB9jlYt7mIqovyaHmzRUR6d1G0Co0_CIx49Cp0u73_zUgH-3Kb1_1JOT_vOdAFLD3lxWH9CDakftToej_Z_k2oyFhHV8esu31ZN3TuRgJDWbkqL3Dfn97p9bhRSl6u9zCQSS1ZH/s320/Sunset-2.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4060793301703595207.post-55385957657343836982021-02-13T18:18:00.000-08:002021-02-13T18:18:04.372-08:00Plum Blossoms<p> It's still winter time but the flowering plum trees start to bloom from lifeless looking branches. I was surprised and amazed to see so many white blossoms in a local parking lot recently. Such a beautiful sign of spring. It's not a surprise that the plum flowers are a symbol for Chinese New Year. Appearing between the winter and spring seasons, of course they symbolize hope and courage. My watercolor of the blossoms and buds was also perfect for our Saturday painting group prompt to paint something expressing "new and/or hopeful". A start for being hopeful this year . </p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrcyLtdxoYEOnyrnULTrxIw61laLKxlybP1ISwPL42IbT75rNegUihPW9hb0wYpHkJ-UJejEbw5isKf-ZNQGFsvd6eZpxbZKe_EaPNO-1QpzVhc25twMPhMYoBekRQeGMidf4G7GoR0ojo/s670/PlumBuds.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="670" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrcyLtdxoYEOnyrnULTrxIw61laLKxlybP1ISwPL42IbT75rNegUihPW9hb0wYpHkJ-UJejEbw5isKf-ZNQGFsvd6eZpxbZKe_EaPNO-1QpzVhc25twMPhMYoBekRQeGMidf4G7GoR0ojo/w400-h286/PlumBuds.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5" x 7" Watercolor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzrI_jHLYtritilL75N6AdKv_GWhLuFfsuYEm31c_HddJRV_VlwWlp9V56EjKE3M-wbWLDnCJSF1zKR_tWlHuWPiDMAEmIEc35IqpfObcqP2L7zt4y0ajEOK9KeSZ5LtS_T6IvqUz2Zm1Q/s846/Screen+Shot+2021-02-13+at+6.08.40+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="846" data-original-width="419" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzrI_jHLYtritilL75N6AdKv_GWhLuFfsuYEm31c_HddJRV_VlwWlp9V56EjKE3M-wbWLDnCJSF1zKR_tWlHuWPiDMAEmIEc35IqpfObcqP2L7zt4y0ajEOK9KeSZ5LtS_T6IvqUz2Zm1Q/w198-h400/Screen+Shot+2021-02-13+at+6.08.40+PM.png" width="198" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhedXSj_zPaZWhgN5tssiO7VRcV5qO9ZU-qAC9gs32XgWUwDAr3mwwCheWjEhjHnDnCw19KiuENZKUTg_x8go5PXIq8bbVLM-46ixMU7gCRYuFxvIGs8iVpMb7cZ5vG-XhXowlIncE0nFAj/s947/Screen+Shot+2021-02-13+at+6.09.15+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="947" data-original-width="661" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhedXSj_zPaZWhgN5tssiO7VRcV5qO9ZU-qAC9gs32XgWUwDAr3mwwCheWjEhjHnDnCw19KiuENZKUTg_x8go5PXIq8bbVLM-46ixMU7gCRYuFxvIGs8iVpMb7cZ5vG-XhXowlIncE0nFAj/s320/Screen+Shot+2021-02-13+at+6.09.15+PM.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3w1Qw3K1IAy428peLaZKecyvWleSdnNQEvEz-j3NBnMrUzUz8rEbzN5k5yz9qmC4ofyTFrR3roXYXn4Y6KQ2jpn1lLHbdUZlpRGvTsFlYF5ap1Tr__pMcBxW43VxGKicc3dp2zlXxuSOZ/s2048/plum2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3w1Qw3K1IAy428peLaZKecyvWleSdnNQEvEz-j3NBnMrUzUz8rEbzN5k5yz9qmC4ofyTFrR3roXYXn4Y6KQ2jpn1lLHbdUZlpRGvTsFlYF5ap1Tr__pMcBxW43VxGKicc3dp2zlXxuSOZ/s320/plum2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p> </p>Sherry Schmidthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13780474188172539194noreply@blogger.com0
